How to Mass Jump

What a “Mass Jump” is

A Mass Jump is when lots of commanders all jump to the same next system at (roughly) the same time. The trick isn’t the jump itself, it’s getting everyone in the same instance and not losing people.

Before anything: the 3 rules that prevent chaos

  1. Everyone must be in the same game mode
Either Open or the same Private Group. (FleetComm PG for Distant Worlds 3!!)
  2. Everyone must have the destination plotted
Make sure the same next system is selected and plotted. People messing this up is… most of the delays. This is normally given out in the Voice Channel text chat!
  3. Decide who is the “anchor”
One person (usually the organizer) stays put and people join them until the instance stabilizes.

Step-by-step: getting people winged up (the simple way)

1) Add friends (only needed once)

  • Open Social (top-left panel)
  • Find the commander name
  • Send Friend Request
  • Once accepted, you can wing up fast.

2) Create the wing (organizer does this)

3) Wing members join and confirm

Each pilot should:

  • Accept the wing invite
  • Confirm they can see wing beacons / wing list
  • Target the organizer’s Nav Beacon and drop out at it!
  • If you cannot see other people enter Supercruise and try again.
  • If you can see other ships when you drop out you are in.
  • Leave the Wing
    • Open Comm Panel (Top one)
    • Move to the Social tab (3rd on from left, Two people icon)
    • At the top of this list you will see your teammates right under is “Options” click on that and you will see “Leave Wing”

Pro tip: If you doesn’t receive a wing invite, relog to main menu and back.

Step-by-step: getting everyone into the same instance

Wings help, but wings do not guarantee instancing in busy systems.

A) Everyone enter supercruise and waits for Wing Invites.

This is normally near the main star of the system.

B) Use Wing Beacons

  • In supercruise, the wingmate location marker helps you converge.
  • If you’re in different instances, you may not see each other even though you’re in the same system.

C) If you can’t see each other: do the “instance reset”

Try in this order:

  1. Throttle to zero, wait ~30 seconds
  2. Low wake (supercruise) and drop again near anchor
  3. High wake to a nearby system and come back
  4. Relog (main menu → back in)

Step-by-step: the actual Mass Jump procedure

Once most people can see the anchor / at least have wing markers:

1) Final prep call (organizer)

Have everyone confirm:

  • Destination system: confirmed
  • FSD cooldown: ready
  • Not mass-locked / not tethered to a station menu

2) Countdowns that work

Use a simple cadence:

  • Jump check. Destination set.
  • Charging on 3… 2… 1… charge.
  • Jump on 0… 3… 2… 1… 0.

Important: don’t do “go on 1” — people interpret it differently. Always jump on 0.

Common Issues (and the quick fixes)

“I’m in the wing but I can’t see them.”
→ Instancing issue. Supercruise + drop near anchor. If still bad: relog.

“I jumped but I’m alone.”
→ Instancing issue. Enter Supercruise and try dropping near Wing Nav beacon. If still bad: relog.

“I can’t invite them to the wing.”
→ They’re in Solo / different Private Group / not friends yet / invite bug. Relog fixes a lot.

“We keep splitting into multiple groups.”
→ Too many people for stable instancing. Use sub-wings (multiple wing groups) and have each sub-wing follow their own anchor, then all jump on the same countdown.
