Waypoint 8 – Khazad-dûm

The next waypoint takes us to Khazad-dûm – Roefoo ZE-H d10-0

Main Base Camp

Alternate Base Camp

We are at roughly the midpoint of our voyage. At Waypoint 8 we shall pause for an additional week, time to regroup while stragglers catch up, and an opportunity to build on our achievements thus far. The system that the cartographers of the GMP named Khazad-dûm is not an easy system to reach for ships with shorter jump ranges; a combination of FSD injections and jet-cone boosts may be needed, and the shortest ranges may be challenged to fly there at all. So we offer an accessible alternative waypoint (900Ly away). This arrangement should be familiar to veterans of the Distant Worlds 2 Expedition, when a more easily reachable alternative was provided to the remote Goliath’s Rest system. Expedition fleet carriers will run a regular shuttle service during our sojourn at Waypoint 8. Even the longest-range ships may not be able to rely on the Galaxy Map plotter to find a jet-cone boosted route to the waypoint; they may well need a little manual plotting or a third-party tool, together perhaps with a small number of FSD injections. Shorter-range ships will have different optimal routes to the waypoint, depending on their jump range. Two such routes, for ranges of 59.5Ly and 36.21Ly, are included in the description on the website. You can use a third-party tool like spansh Galaxy Plotter to find a route optimised for a specific build. Or just head down there and try out some manual plotting! A special note to Rawrunners and Outlanders – even the purest purist may treat the Waypoint 8 visit as a half-term holiday: once at the secondary waypoint you can switch to a longer-range ship, take carrier rides, and generally kick back until it is time to move on. The Science Carrier for the Veils will be FIMBULTHUL : V4V-2XZ stationed at Prue Pruae AA-A h29

Here are some suggested scenic or astronomically unusual POIs to visit on your journey. Check out Waypoint 8 on the website or the official forum for more information on these, in particular on those found by our scouting team that are on this expedition.
